Knit Your First Sweater
Class Starts March 6th at CVU! Click here to register and for additional information
Have you knit hats, scarves, mittens, and cowls and want to take on a sweater? In this class, we’ll cover the techniques required for knitting a top-down, raglan sweater. We’ll be working in bulky weight yarn so it will be a fairly quick knit, in just a month’s time, you’ll have your very first sweater to knit! There is a bit of homework before the beginning of class, please knit a swatch, approximately 6” x 6” using your larger gauge (US 11) needles and working in stockinette stitch – cast on 20 stitches and work one-row knit and one-row purl – repeat until your swatch is approximately 6” square. Bring your swatch to the first day of class and we’ll get measured up and cast on!
DROP SPINDLE SPINNING CLASS
March 9th, 1:30-3 pm at Wing & A Prayer Farm Click here to register and for additional information
Spinning is a rewarding fiber art, you get to make the exact yarn you want to knit, crochet, or weave with! Drop spindles are portable, you can take your spinning virtually anywhere, and before you know it, you’ll have a skein of yarn that you made. During this 2.5-hour class, we’ll talk about the different types of spindles, learn how to attach a leader, and jump right into spinning, starting with the park and draft technique. We’ll also talk about how to best wrangle your fiber while spinning, as well as different plying techniques. We will have spindles available for you to use during class and available for purchase, but feel free to bring any you may already have. We will also have some lovely roving available to purchase, it is a medium-length fiber which is ideal for learning to spin with.
Class runs from 1 - 3:30 p.m. in the Wool Shop + Apothecary at Wing & A Prayer Farm, address is 983 Myers Road, Shaftsbury, VT.
